Checking Out in the Library

Kindergarteners and first graders can check out 1 book a week.

2nd-5th graders can check out up to 2 books a week.

Parents and guardians can email Mrs. Mitchell through the Staff Directory page to make check-out requests regarding their own child. You can always see what your child has checked out by logging into Classlink and clicking on the Destiny app.

Books must be returned in good condition, not ripped, cut, torn, wet, marked with pen, markers, etc.

We will reach out and ask for funds to replace damaged books. The cost of the replacement is the responsibility of the student. Once a student pays for a lost or damaged book, it becomes the property of the student.

We will not check out additional books until current missing books are located and returned or until damaged books are paid for to allow for replacement. If a student moves within the Bedford County school system and owes a library book, the computer system tracks materials checked out by a student.

Strategies For Finding a Great Book!

Mrs. Mitchell will share with first and second graders the 5 Finger rule to help them find a just right book.

When choosing a book, it is a good practice to remember the 5 Finger Rule. Choosing a book you can comfortably read and enjoy will help you grow as a reader and learn to love books! Tricky words are not all bad; we will never grow as a reader if we never see them.

A shelf marker is a tool we use in the library to help put books back in their place if we decide we don't want to check it out after pulling it off the shelf. Using shelf markers helps to keep the books in their correct location, so that when another student is looking for it, they can easily find it in its proper place. Please always have a shelf marker in your hand when you are looking for a library book and use it correctly.
