Welcome to my classroom!

I am excited to help start a brand new school in our county! I see coming to Cartwright Elementary as an adventure! I look forward to meeting new faces and getting to know many new people. Teaching is truly a passion for me. I enjoy helping students to learn and love watching students grow in their abilities throughout the year.

In my class, students should be prepared for lots of discussion! I believe the best way to learn how to interact with text is to read it with each other and have open dialogue. Every voice is important, so every voice will be heard.

I am married to Lisa Yates, who teaches at Cascade High School. We have four children, who are all married, and five grandchildren. We enjoy spending time with our family and going camping every chance we get. We are members of Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church and have served in several different capacities throughout our time there. We have worked with children of all ages, from babies to teens. We have also served in VBS and have sung in the choir.

I taught for 13 years at Community Elementary School in 5th grade before making the move to Cartwright Elementary. For the first two years, I was a self-contained teacher teaching all subjects. After that, I partnered with Lori Bishop and taught ELA and Social Studies. Teaching is challenging, but also very fulfilling and rewarding. I enjoy working with children from all different walks of life and watching them learn. I cannot wait to get started at our new school!
